About Vadvetjåkka National Park
Vadvetjåkka is a small national park in a remote and desolate mountain area northwest of Torneträsk.
The national park is an important part of the summer grazing land of the Talma Sámi community. Reindeer husbandry has been carried out here for hundreds of years.
South of the mountain lies a large, bird‑rich delta area with lakes, willow thickets and mires. The national park consists mainly of bare mountain.
The climate in Vadvetjåkka National Park is influenced by the area’s proximity to the Atlantic. The weather is therefore often cloudy, and there is a great deal of rain and snow.
The park is named after Mount Vadvetjåkka, which dominates the surrounding landscape.
