About Pieljekaise National Park
The area is a refuge for many birds and predators. It has also been an important place for Sámi reindeer herding since ancient times.
The national park is a low mountain area with many small lakes, birch forests, as well as heaths and herb‑rich meadows.
The highest mountain in the national park is Pieljekaise, 1,138 metres above sea level. It has also given the park its name. In Sámi, the mountain is called Bieljijgájse, which means “the ear peaks”. The mountain’s two summits resemble an ear in profile.
Pieljekaise National Park lies within the Semisjaur‑Njarg Sámi community.
The park’s highest mountain is Pieljekaise, rising 1,138 metres above sea level. It has given the national park its name.
