Visit the park

Here you’ll find directions, information about local services, and other useful details to help you prepare for your visit to Garphyttan National Park.

Garphyttan National Park is one of Sweden’s oldest national parks. The easiest way to reach the national park is by car, but you can also walk or travel by public transport using Närtrafiken.

There is no food service, but several prepared rest areas are located throughout the park. At the national park entrance there is a dry toilet.

Seasons in Garphyttan National Park

Already in March, the first flower appears — tibast, whose pink blossoms open on bare branches. A few weeks later, you can enjoy carpets of blåsippa and vitsippa, as well as the migratory birds that have recently returned.

Around Midsummer, the meadows are in full bloom. When you have seen enough of all the flowers, head into the forest and enjoy the quiet. Look for woodpeckers, nötkråka or perhaps a squirrel. In autumn, the greenery turns into an explosion of colours. There are plenty of mushrooms, both in the meadows and the forest.

At all times of the year, as long as the snow is not too deep, it is wonderful to walk the slightly longer trails and enjoy all the sounds and scents of the forest, as well as the beautifully filtered light from the treetops. Enjoy the view from one of the three viewpoints, or take the opportunity to grill a sausage at the rest area at Skomakartorpet.

Accessibility

In Garphyttan there are several accessible rest areas. There is also a trail, Lövstigen, which is adapted for visitors using, for example, a wheelchair. If you walk the trail clockwise, there will be fewer uphill sections.
