Visit the park

Here you’ll find directions, information about local services, and other useful details to help you prepare for your visit to Fulufjället National Park.

Fulufjället National Park has several entrances that you can reach in different ways. Most entrances are easiest to reach by car, but Njupeskär entrance and Gördalen can be reached by public transport that must be booked in advance. If you get hungry, you can visit the café and lunch restaurant at Njupeskärsentrén. It is open during the summer, June–September.

Seasons in Fulufjället National Park

The national park is beautiful to visit all year round. Depending on what you want to see and experience, you can, with the help of the staff at naturum, adapt your visit to the seasons.

In winter you can experience Fulufjället on skis or snowshoes. You can also ride a snowmobile along the marked snowmobile trail. Winter is perfect for ice fishing. Snow can arrive as early as October and remains well into May. In April there are usually fantastic days on the mountain.

Spring in Fulufjället is short. When the ice breaks up and the snow melts, the mountain streams and birdlife awaken again. If you want to watch birds, June is the best month. That is when all the migratory birds return to the area.

Hiking during summer and early autumn

In mid‑June it is suitable to start hiking on Fulufjället, as most of the snow has melted and the ground has begun to dry. But expect that there may still be snow left on the mountain. Hiking is best until September. During June and early July, the nights are light, but they can be cold; frost is not unusual at any time during the summer.

In autumn, the park is quieter, and in September the autumn colours are at their most beautiful. Keep in mind that snow can arrive as early as October, so plan your hike in good time.

Accessibility

Fulufjället National Park is accessible to everyone. Certain areas are adapted for visitors using, for example, a wheelchair or a pushchair. At naturum you can get more information about accessibility in the park.

Along the trails on the rest of the mountain, there are boardwalks over the wettest sections and bridges over the widest mountain streams. The trails are marked with trail signs and waymarks, but further up on the mountain there may only be a path to follow.
